Artist and Educator

Hi! I’m Lauren. I’m a dedicated educator with a passion for inspiring student voice and creativity. Since as early as I can remember, the art room was full of magic and there was nowhere else I’d rather be. It has been a joy to create that space for my students. I’ve been teaching art for 15 years, currently teaching 6th-8th grade art.

Community

Building rapport and relationships is at the core of my classroom. I strive to get to know my students, build trust and community, and create a space where everyone feels welcome. I differentiate instruction for learners of various needs and create lessons that are culturally responsive. It is important to me that students feel safe sharing their ideas and are respectful of diverse viewpoints. Students build trust through collaboration and practice giving feedback through peer critique.

Student Centered

I am passionate about centering student voice and choice in my art classroom. I respond to students’ interests and learning styles to build engagement and encourage them take ownership over their learning and artwork. I use the Studio Habits of Mind to help students develop a creative process rich in experimentation and reflection. These habits help them build confidence and independence, take risks, and express original ideas.
